2023: Akwa Ibom PDP Officials reject Umo Eno, Gov Emmanuel’s hand-picked choice
Local Government and ward officials of PDP in Akwa Ibom State have openly rejected the preferred choice of Governor Udom Emmanuel for governor in 2023.
At a party gathering , where Emmanuel was due to present Pastor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, as his hand-picked successor, the officers reacted negatively, forcing the governor to adjourn the meeting abruptly.
Trouble started when the immediate past National Legal Adviser of PDP, Emmanuel Enoidem, tried to introduce the topic of Eno as governor’s personal choice as successor.
Enoidem, who is also the leader of Maintain Peace Movement, a group programmed as campaign structure for Eno, was booed and caterwauled out of the podium.
The noise was so deafening and shameful that Gov. Emmanuel had to hurriedly mount the rostrum to try calming frayed nerves. He then ordered the meeting adjourned for another date.
The governor had on Sunday (Jan 30, 2022) introduced his preferred aspirant to a group of people, including members of the clergy and the traditional institution, who were tricked to Government House in the guide of attending a stakeholders’ meeting.
They were shocked by the announcement but were not allowed to either comment or ask questions. Many of them claimed later that they had no pre-knowledge of the agenda, yet they were all directed by the governor to support Eno, his choice.
